Job Summary
To provide direct patient care under accepted principles of medical ethics and departmental policy.
Principal Duties
l. Serving as resource to the physician, nursing and ancillary staff in relation to technical and
therapeutic aspects of respiratory care and to the effective and safe methods for administering
respiratory therapy in accordance with established standards.
2. Reading, evaluating and acting upon physician's orders and charting.
3. Receiving patient care assignment as directed by the supervisor. Organizing workload and delivers
appropriate therapy in a timely and efficient manner.
Applying ventilators/therapies to patients and monitors their response. Modifying therapy/techniques
based on clinical and laboratory data in consultation with the physician.
Administering therapeutic gases and aerosolized medications. Performing assorted pulmonary
hygiene procedures and assessing the effectiveness of therapy. Interpreting basic EKG tracing and
performing and documenting clinical assessments based on knowledge of disease states,
pathophysiology, X-rays and pharmaceutical interactions.
Performing, analyzing and interpreting arterial blood gases.
Maintaining and manipulating blood gas machines and co-oximeter as well as other gas monitoring
devices according to departmental standards and policies.
