1. Responsible for overseeing the local area network, or LAN (used within the organization), but also the wide area network, or WAN (used to connect to computers outside the organization).
2. Install, configure, and troubleshoot network and application server hardware, network operating system software, and peripheral network equipment such as routers, bridges, cabling system, network interface cards, modems, multiplexers, and concentrators.
3. Set up and connect the computers in a workplace.
4. Make sure that the networks are secure and operate properly, determine the levels of user accessibility according to their IT department policy.
5. Troubleshoot problems or conflicts should they arise, firewalls implementation and management.
6. Work with the existing network engineers to manage, deploy, and troubleshoot switching, firewall, and load balancers.
7. Assist with implementing new switches, firewalls, and load balancers, and provide input for developing local operating procedures and policies as needed or requested.
8. Adept at monitoring the ongoing operation of the switches and identifying potential issues and corrective actions as needed.
9. Coordinates the development, implementation, and maintenance of a local area network (LAN) and/or wide area network.
10. Work involves installation, testing, maintenance, and enhancement.
11. Work with IT staff, and vendors/contractors to install equipment, networking software, and required application.
12. Evaluate, and fine-tunes components such as hubs, switches, and routers to achieve peak efficiency within the overall network connectivity.
13. Assist in the development, configuration, installation, and maintenance of network systems to include the LAN/WAN.
14. Conduct testing of network systems to ensure current network software products are compatible with system configurations and to ensure operability, efficiency, and compliance with existing standards.
15. Monitor operation of the LAN/WAN and ensures hardware and network operating software are functioning properly and that operation standards are met.
