Plant entomologist will work on the classification, identification and control of various insects which have bad effect on environment under general direction. The entomologist should know well taxonomy and the economies of insects categorized as plant pests and other mollusks and arthropods, mites and nematodes and especially work on that. The main duty will be eradication of Red Weevil in Palm dates.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• The candidate should have the ability to perform all taxonomic and curatorial work and tasks.
• Should be able to evaluate the status of pest perfectly.
• Should have the proficiency in the identification of insects so will be able to understand and stop that.
• Must know a variety of techniques, methods and procedures as well as lab and field analysis as well as control techniques.
• The candidate should have the ability to establish effective and harmonious work relationships with the company staff and the members.
• Makes field and laboratory diagnoses of plant pests (insects, mollusks, arthropods, mites and nematodes); conducts surveys; identifies pests which cause harm to plants; prepares, examines, and interprets histological specimens.
• Analyzes potential hazards to plant life and makes recommendations for solutions to problems; develops diagnostic resources. Field work, including the collection of plant material samples from a range of environments.
• Use Integrated Pest Management Methods to prevent and/or to eradicate pests organically.
• Prepares news releases, bulletins, and other educational materials on methods to cope with plant pests; maintains records and prepares reports.
• Monitoring or supervising laboratory research
• Conducting laboratory analysis of plant material samples and research experiments
• Completing paperwork and cataloguing findings
• Writing research reports and making presentations on findings, including scientific research papers and non-scientific client reports
• Interpreting science to inform policy
• Attending conferences to keep abreast of the latest developments and to network with people in the profession and in related industries
• In consultancy roles: tendering for work, reporting to and advising clients, liaising with members of related professions, such as phytopathologists, Horticulturists, pedologists and hydrologists.
