Perform the full range of duties associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning systems and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, and control mechanisms. Maintain refrigeration units and their control is expected to identify the cause of the problem, determine materials and tools needed and method of repair, and carry out repair procedures independently on most jobs. Jobs involving modifications and upgrades, or more complex jobs will be reviewed by a technical supervisor to determine extent of the work scope.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
• Troubleshoots and repairs chiller electrical control circuits.
• Overhauls small reciprocal compressors.
• Overhauls larger reciprocal, absorption, and centrifugal compressors under technical supervision.
• Installs and repairs all types of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
• Makes minor and major repairs.
• Uses common hand tools and gauges, testing manifolds, adapter kit for seal units, and oxygen acetylene torch for silver brazing.
• Repairs or replaces expansion valves, water valves, controls, motor pressure and electric condensers.
• Cleans compressors, water and air-cooled; changes and cleans filters in air conditioning and ventilation equipment.
• Services and maintains air conditioning equipment, up to and including 400 ton units.
• Checks accuracy and calibrates electrical, pneumatic, and electronic control systems.
• Troubleshoots control circuits and replaces faulty thermostats, wiring, and control devices.
• Performs preventive maintenance on air-conditioning and air handling equipment.
• Installs air-conditioning units, wires controls, and builds and installs duct work and chilled water piping.
• Adjusts chillers and balances distribution systems to achieve maximum energy efficiency.
• Removes and replaces joints or lengths of pipe in chilled water distribution systems.
• Performs related duties as required.
